Best Restaurants Near Krimovica

All Guides

From a family konoba where the grandmother still makes the bread to a 15th-century mill where the stream runs under your table, the area around Krimovica offers some of the best dining in Montenegro — at prices that will make you wonder why you ever ate in tourist restaurants.

Restaurant Carevic — Krimovica (2 min)

This is the restaurant we send every guest to on their first night, and the one they come back to on their last. The Carevic family has been cooking in Krimovica for decades — the recipes are handed down, the bread is baked fresh, and the wine comes from their own vineyard up the hill. The star dish is lamb cooked under the sač — a cast-iron bell covered with hot embers, slow-roasting the meat for hours until it falls off the bone. It must be ordered at least 3 hours in advance (tell us when you check in and we will call ahead). The grilled trout is caught locally and served whole with potatoes and blitva (Swiss chard with olive oil). The mixed grill plate is enormous and feeds two easily. A full meal for two with house wine costs €25–35. There is no website, no Instagram, no TripAdvisor listing — just a terrace with mountain views, a family who remembers your name, and food that tastes like it is supposed to taste.

Konoba Catovica Mlini — Morinj (30 min)

If you eat at one restaurant outside Krimovica, make it this one. Catovica Mlini is set in a complex of 15th-century stone mills beside a rushing stream on the Bay of Kotor. Tables are arranged under ancient plane trees, with the sound of water everywhere and the mountains rising behind. The menu is seafood-focused: grilled orada and brancin, black cuttlefish risotto, octopus salad, and the house speciality of trout pulled from the stream that runs through the restaurant. Mains cost €12–18. The setting is genuinely magical — there is nowhere else quite like it in Montenegro. Reservation is essential in July and August; in shoulder season you can usually walk in for lunch. The drive from Krimovica follows the Bay of Kotor through Kotor and along the northern shore — 30 minutes of beautiful scenery. Worth a special trip.

Przno Village — Seafood by the Water (20 min)

The tiny fishing village of Przno, just north of Sveti Stefan, has two restaurants that serious food lovers seek out. Konoba Langust is famous for its fresh fish and lobster, served on a terrace directly above the water — you can watch fishing boats come in while you eat. The catch of the day is displayed on ice at the entrance; point at what you want and they grill it. Expect €15–25 for a fish main. Restaurant Drago next door is more casual with excellent grilled seafood at slightly lower prices. Both restaurants have that rare combination of outstanding food and an unforgettable setting. Combine with a visit to the Sveti Stefan viewpoint (2 minutes away).

Budva Old Town (10 min)

Budva has many restaurants but quality varies wildly. The reliable choices: Konoba Stari Grad serves traditional Montenegrin food in a stone courtyard deep in the old town — grilled meats, fresh fish, local wine, €10–16 per main. Jadran has the best terrace in Budva, right on the waterfront with views of Sveti Nikola island — seafood €12–20, worth it for the setting. Porto outside the walls does modern Mediterranean with creative cocktails and a younger crowd, €14–22. The rule in Budva: if a restaurant has a picture menu displayed on the street, walk past it.

Kotor (15 min)

Bastion is Kotor's finest — Mediterranean fine dining in a converted fortress bastion with panoramic bay views. The menu changes seasonally, the wine list is excellent, and mains run €18–30. Reservation essential. Galion sits on the waterfront just outside the old town walls — the grilled orada here is as good as anywhere on the coast, €12–20. For budget eating, Cesarica inside the walls does honest local food for €8–12, and the bakeries sell burek (cheese or meat pastry) for €2–3 that makes a perfect quick lunch.

Self-Catering at Mata Apartments

All three apartments have full kitchens, and cooking with local ingredients is one of the pleasures of staying in Krimovica. The green market (zelena pijaca) in Budva sells fresh fruit, vegetables, local cheese, honey, and olive oil daily — everything is seasonal and local. The fish market next door has the morning catch. Supermarkets (Voli, Idea) in Budva stock everything else. For a memorable evening in, buy fresh fish at the market, a bottle of Montenegrin Vranac wine (€5–8), tomatoes and peppers from the green market, and grill on the apartment terrace with the sea view. Total cost for two: about €15. Hard to beat.
